Fall sports are officially here, which means cool mornings, warm afternoons, rainy game days, chilly bleachers, and the constant question of, “What in the world do I need to bring today?”
Fall sports weather can be all over the place, so I like to keep a few essentials ready that help me stay comfortable no matter what the forecast decides to do. Whether you’re heading to soccer, football, baseball, softball, or another fall sport, these are some of my favorite sideline fall sports essentials.
A Comfortable Bleacher Seat
If you spend your weekends sitting on metal bleachers, you already know that a good bleacher seat is worth every penny.
Personally, I prefer my Supportive Bleacher Seat because I am always hot. Give me a cool fall breeze and I am perfectly happy!
But I definitely have friends who are cold from September through March, so for them, I’m including the heated or insulated bleacher seat option. If you are the mom wrapped in three layers for cold weather sports while everyone else is comfortable, this one might quickly become your favorite fall sports purchase.
A Blanket for the Kids
If siblings are tagging along to games, I always recommend keeping an Easy-To-Clean Blanket in the car.
Kids somehow end up sitting everywhere except where you planned for them to sit — on the bleachers, on the grass, beside the field, or even on the ground playing with other siblings.
Look for something that you can shake out, wipe down, or easily throw in the washing machine. Fall fields can get muddy quickly, so this is definitely one item where practical wins.
My Sherpa Bleacher Seat Cover
One of my favorite fall sports items is my Sherpa Seat Cover.
It is perfect for those cold early-morning games when the bleachers feel absolutely freezing. Then, because fall sports weather likes to keep us guessing, you can easily remove it later when the sun comes out and you suddenly feel like it is 20 degrees warmer.
That is exactly why I love versatile items for fall sports. You might leave the house bundled up and be sitting in sunshine in a T-shirt a few hours later.
An Umbrella Is Always in My Car
Rainy sports weekends are practically guaranteed at some point during the fall season.
I keep my Totes Umbrella handy because even when the forecast says there is only a small chance of rain, sports moms know that somehow the rain always seems to arrive right at kickoff or the first pitch.
A larger umbrella is especially helpful when you are trying to cover yourself, your chair, your bag, and possibly a child at the same time.
Stylish Waterproof Boots
Rain does not mean we have to completely give up on looking put together.
A cute pair of waterproof or water-resistant boots is one of my favorite fall sports essentials. They keep your feet dry while still working with leggings, jeans, joggers, or basically any other sports-mom outfit.
Because there is nothing worse than sitting through an entire game with wet socks.
Layers and Shades
Layers are everything during fall sports.
I love having a versatile Game Day Sweatshirt that I can throw on during those chilly morning games and easily take off once the afternoon warms up.
A Lightweight Rain Jacket is another great option because it gives you an extra layer without taking up a ton of room in your bag. Bonus points if it folds up small enough to keep in your car or sports wagon.
Sunny afternoons require my favorite Blender Sunglasses. Easily thrown in your Bogg Bag for when the beautiful sunshines makes an appearance.
During fall sports, I have learned that you really need to prepare for multiple seasons in one day.
Hydration is Still a Must
Whether you drink coffee, tea or enjoying some warm apple cider on the sidelines, you will definitely want to keep it warm throughout the game. My favorite tumbler is my Yeti Rambler...I love a handle.
Water should still be packed in your Owala and stored in the Bogg Bag!
Fall Sports Mom Survival Is All About Being Prepared
Fall sports are some of my favorite weekends of the year. The crisp mornings, changing leaves, concession stand hot chocolate, packed sidelines, and busy tournament weekends make this season so much fun.
But being comfortable definitely makes those long days at the field even better.
My biggest tip is to keep your fall game day essentials together so you aren't searching for everything before every game. Keep your bleacher seat, blanket, umbrella, extra layers, and weather-friendly shoes ready to go.
Because as sports moms, we already have enough to remember.
The goal is to spend less time worrying about what we forgot and more time enjoying the game — even if we are bundled up at 8:00 a.m. and sweating in the sunshine by 2:00 p.m.
That’s fall sports for you! Enjoy the beautiful ever changing chaos of fall sports! You got this!
